Hello reader
Woohoo! Our first Toss n Tell for 2022. We have a big day planned starting with our regular sharing. This month bring along an experimental piece - whether it worked or not! The pieces that don't quite do what we wanted are usually the most informative.
We will talk about what's happening in the coming months and updates on the exhibition.
This month we have a fabulous demo & popup shop by Martien Van Zuilen, who will show us Instant Smocking & Sculptural Effects - not to be missed, and our Marks Over Time session will cover an example schedule of progress so we are all ready to go.

Sue Eslick's Nuno Hat workshop is now open for bookings but be quick! Sue is a fantastic tutor with many years of felting and teaching experience her workshops are snapped up quickly. At $70 it is an absolute bargain!

That's all for now.

See you Saturday

Nuno Hat Making

In this one day class we will create fine felt around a resist to make a hollow form which will form the basis for our hat.  Silk fabric can be added to provide surface decoration, colour shading and extra strength. Sizing and design elements will be discussed to create a unique hat.

The workshop is suitable for inexperienced felters if you can lay out wool tops finely and evenly.

Uthando Doll Project

Have you got a finished doll? Bring it to Toss n Tell for delivery.

So far we have raised nearly $600 through the sales of the doll kits, books and bodies but more importantly we have returned 20 dolls. These dolls are so important to the children on Kwala Zulu Natal so get to it - finish them and get them to us.

Perth Makers Market

The December market was another valuable lesson on the ins and outs of market life in Perth. We nearly tripled our sales from the May market and we learned a lot from the other stall holders, who were very helpful and forth coming with information. We learned that the November market is far more lucrative with the December market being mainly for those catch up sales from people who are in a mad panic at the last minute! So this year we will book both November and December.

The type of items that sold were quite interesting and went against what we have experienced in the past. In previous years things that sold really well at markets were priced in the low to moderate range - under $50. This market we did sell items under $50 but items up to $100 also sold really well. The overwhelming feedback from customers and other stall holders was uniqueness sells. So keep that in mind for the end of this year.

Library Feature

We have many books & magazines in our library and not all of them are just on felting. Here's a review of a mending book.

The book explains essential mending techniques with the suggested stitch for the technique. The stitches are explained in word and by diagrams, making it easy for all to understand.
Each mending technique has a project to match. It is an easy to read book. The author dares you to explore, given its visible mending the stitches to use for each technique only guidelines. Visible mending includes templates for projects. Mending of stretch or knitted clothes and non-stretch.
Some of the projects are: repairs to jeans, sock repair, mittens with duplicate stitch,

Definitely worth a read and at least one project will take your fancy.
