Parchment was a prized commodity and not to be wasted: scribes and scholars would scrape back the ink to rewrite a text leaving subsequent layers faintly visible through to the top. This soft ghost like effect would hint of things past and remind us of the story …

Skill Extension - Cracked Earth
|
|
|
In this extension workshop we will learn how to make the fabulous ‘cracked earth’ surface design. Participants will make a unique sample square. Examples will be available to show how this technique can be altered using different shapes and colours, and used to make a unique and interesting texture on bags, sculptures, vessels etc.

Tone Tvedt “ Myk og Fargerik Filting I Ull - 2017. ( Norwegian Felter)

Thank you to our member Vicki Dempster who presented this special book to Feltwest on behalf of the author after her recent visit to Norway. Vicki met author Tone Tvedt after visiting her shop. The book although written is Norwegian is filled with ideas for projects (wet and needle felted) and photos of the process of making them every step of the way. The materials required are indicated in “centimetres and grams”, and the word “merino” is familiar !

Most felters won’t necessarily need google translate to understand what ‘s written. The book includes patterns for some projects. It is ideal for beginner felters, looking for relative simple ideas but using different techniques such as how to stencil, lay mosaics and construct a rose. It is nice to check out what is felted in different countries! Well worth a good look.

History of art at Stirling Libraries

Local artist Monia Allegre will be presenting a series of talks on the history of western art at Stirling Libraries. This season of talks will run across six sessions and will cover the birth of Renaissance Art up to Contemporary Art in the present day.
|
|
|
|
Monia Allegre Bekcic is a visual artist, who creates sculptural artworks with a variety of materials. Monia has had an number of works installed around Perth and has exhibited at Sculptures by the Sea.
The series of talks will take place at the Stirling Libraries Karrinyup, Inglewood, Dianella, Scarborough, Mirrabooka and Osborne between Thursday 1 September and Thursday 24 September 2022.
