enews cover
Hello reader
What a wonderful opening night we had last Thursday. Congratulations to everyone who participated in Marks Over Time - the gallery looked amazing and we will share more images with you over the next few newsletters.

We have had a tutor cancel due to ill health - hope you're feeling better - so we have a weekend free - this weekend September 3rd & 4th with an empty hall. You are more than welcome to come and felt whilst the committee are planning and preparing some resources for next year's program. We will be making natural dye baths for next year - you are welcome to join in. Its also a great opportunity to use multiple tables for those big felting projects or come and do some hand work. Up to you! Join us - doors open 10am - 4pm.

Speaking of planning - we have had some great suggestions for next year's program from you but there is still time to suggest more! We are looking for ideas for all events, not just workshops but things like - what you would like to see at Toss n Tell, and any external events you think might be suitable for us. Plus we are looking for a charity activity - something we can all be involved in and raise money for a worthy charity - any ideas? Email one of the committee if you have some. We have added the committee emails to the bottom of every eNews.
There has been some adjustments to the Members Area of the website. The menu was becoming unruly to navigate so we have put all your Members stuff on one page. Log in as usual and don't forget to scroll down to see it all. Hope this makes it easier.

Soosie's Palimpsest Jewellery workshop is now open for bookings. Materials are supplied for this workshop all you need to bring will be your own tools like scissors, needles, notebooks that will be in the materials list and of course you are welcome to bring your own little treasures. Either way you will make beautiful earrings, brooches, and necklaces that will tell you a story every time you wear them. You can also bring treasures to share or swap which will add another layer upon each others’ stories. Full details below.

We have booked a stall at Perth Makers Market Sunday November 6th at Heathcote Goolugatup. Which we discovered from other stall holders is the big one for Christmas shopping. We are streamlining the submission process and will keep you posted. Things like stock already submitted doesn't need to be resubmitted, and less people will be required on the stall during the day.

But now is the time to gather your pieces and put it in your diary.

That's all for now. We hope to see you felting on the weekend.

Studio Detritus – Palimpsest Jewellery

A workshop with Soosie Jobson

A palimpsest was a mediaeval way of recycling. Parchment was a prized commodity and not to be wasted: scribes and scholars would scrape back the ink to rewrite a text leaving subsequent layers faintly visible through to the top. This soft ghost like effect would hint of things past and remind us of the story beneath. What better way to tell story than to use what we already have?

All of those beautiful little pieces of leftover felt, the odd and precious bead, glorious threads, scraps of divine fabric or exquisite handmade papers that accumulate in our studios can be set free using this recycling technique. I love that we can use less to get more.

We will take the challenge in this one-day workshop to use only what we have. Materials are supplied for this workshop all you need to bring will be your own tools like scissors, needles, notebooks that will be in the materials list but you are welcome to bring your own little treasures. Either way we will make beautiful earrings, brooches, and necklaces that will tell us stories every time we wear them. You can also bring treasures to share or swap which will add another layer upon each others' stories.

Experience level: beginners to experienced – all welcome. Return participants more than welcome – do the things you missed last time plus a few new surprises.

Studio Detritus has been an ongoing series of workshops that focus on using what we have rather than acquiring more yet getting more in the end. Soosie has been a practicing felt and textile artist for over 30 years and has won awards, prizes, and been featured in many exhibitions and publications around the world.

Magnetic brooch clasps will be for sale $5 at the workshop.

Materials are supplied.
