Does shape affect shrinkage?
Succinctly – Yes!
Have you ever noticed when someone’s beautifully felted jacket has sleeves that are just that little bit too long? Or have you made a scarf/wrap that didn’t quite ended up your calculated length? It’s because the same shrinkage rate has been used for every measurement, when perhaps there should be 2 shrinkage rates. I alluded briefly to 2 shrinkage rates in the last Shrinkage talk related to the laying of the wool but there are other mitigating circumstances if which you may end up with more than 1 shrinkage rate. Sleeves, wraps and scarves are classic examples.
